In these unpredictable times and the upcoming US elections, it is even more critical for fellow Filipino migrant workers to feel safe by sticking together and getting organized! Let’s learn about immigration and labor rights to protect ourselves and our community.  

Agenda: 

  • 4-part workshop series featuring sharing of migration stories, know your immigration and labor rights, labor trafficking 101, and Damayan orientation. 

  • Open to all, and Zoom will be provided

  • STRONGLY ENCOURAGED IN-PERSON attendance for those with immigration, possible labor trafficking, or wage-theft legal case

Join the NY Domestic Worker Coalition, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and We Dream in Black on Sunday, June 16th, 2024 to celebrate International Domestic Worker Day. Our celebration will center the life and legacy of our movement mother, Dorothy Bolden, to celebrate her 100th birthday and also lift up the important contributions of domestic workers in New York with a proclamation from the NY State Senate honoring domestic workers.

Kaya, sumali na ho sa Damayan Annual General Assembly at Board Election sa June 8, kung saan masisiyahan tayo sa community bonds at ngunit iboto din natin ang mga susunod na Board Members na tutulong sa iyo at sa komunidad ng Damayan! It is with great sadness that Damayan announces the passing of our beloved Alfred Lascano, age 74. Alfred passed on December 15, 2023.

Alfred was born on October 7, 1949, in Taal, Batangas, Philippines. He is survived by his loving wife, Nilda Samodio, and his son, Mark Anthony Lascano. Alfred is the proud Chair of the Damayan Board of Directors and a labor trafficking survivor. He is also the proud Past Master of Manahatta Lodge 449.

Please join us for a celebration of Alfred’s life and legacy Tuesday, December 19, 2023, 5-9 PM, at NF Walker of Queens Funeral Home, 8734 80th Street, Woodhaven, NY. You can also join via Zoom.

Through the Barnard Engages course, Damayan and students at Barnard/Columbia collectively produced a timeline of Damayan organizing over the past twenty years. They drew on Damayan's organizational archives, published video and written sources, and interviews with current and former Damayan staff, Board, worker leaders, and supporters. The launch is a culmination of the course. 

The class is also part of an ongoing partnership between Damayan and Barnard College. In a previous semester Barnard College students helped produce a report of Damayan’s organizing during the pandemic called Pandemic Tales in 2021.
