Damayan Combats Anti-Asian Hate Anew with the Community

Damayan stands with Filipino mother and son, Cecille and Kyla Lai, victims of a violent racially-motivated attack last March 2 along Corona, Queens by three assailants. As a response to this new anti-Asian hate attack, different communities gathered together in solidarity right where the crime took place and denounced this act of hate against the Lai family.

Organized by the Asian American Federation, the rally saw Assemblymember Steve Raga, Asian American Federation’s Jo-Ann Yoo, Councilmember Shekar Krishnan, and Senator Michael Gianaris coming together with Cecile Lai herself and the whole community, decrying this violent hate crime.

Last March 11, Damayan answered this threat by organizing an Anti-Asian Hate Know Your Rights Training with Atty Alex Hu of New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) for the community members, to help empower the members to fight for their rights, in the event that they are confronted with hate or violence perpetrated against them.

An attack on one of us is an attack on us all. We stand strong when we fight together as one community. (Read more here) >link to  website/March Members Meeting
