Damayan WeRise Nanny Training Day 3 Summary

“Nanny training is important because it is additional knowledge for us. Especially [because] we can use it for our everyday lives—for our kids, our grandchildren, and at work. That will help us a lot.”

- Ate Graci A, Damayan Member

Last weekend, Damayan members and domestic workers attended the Damayan WeRise Nanny Training, Day 3, and polished their professional nanny skills while also learning about the violence and resistance in Palestine. The day included:

WeRise Module 5: Social Emotional Development. WeRise trainer Peggy discussed the healthy ways that the participants can manage children’s emotions. The participants also practiced reframing assumptions and dealing with children’s temperaments. While social-emotional development is often overlooked in domestic work, Damayan members who finish WeRise will be knowledgeable in the subject matter!

WeRise Module 6: Pediatrics. WeRise trainer Doris facilitated a video presentation from Weill Cornell Medicine about children’s health. The participants learned how to provide First Aid treatment, as well as safely handling Covid, allergy emergencies, and more. WeRise graduates will impress their employers with this knowledge while also raising the standards in the nanny industry.

Current Events: Damayan co-founder Linda Oalican shared how Israel and its allies like the US have killed more than 20,000 Palestinians, as well as the history of Israel’s occupation in Palestine. Damayan will always fight for human rights!

Damayan WeRise Nanny Training, Day 3, was Damayan’s first event in 2024, and we are excited to further empower our community of Filipina domestic workers! Our next event is the Damayan Legal Clinic on Saturday, February 17, 2024, in The People’s Forum. RSVP is required and it is first-come, first-serve. If you have a potential labor or immigration case, RSVP by contacting -212-564-6057.
