Filipino migrant workers strengthen community bonds at Annual Summer Socialization
On Saturday, more than 50 migrant workers, family members, and Damayan supporters celebrated community joy at our Annual Summer Socialization at Flushing Meadows Park. The social event was a highlight for community members who may be far from home and desire a supportive Filipino community!
What did we do?
Filipino Food Fiesta: What’s a filipino Fiesta without great food? Through the generosity of many Damayan members and supporters, we had a full food table with various Filipino food. This reflects our members' generosity and their support of Damayan and each other.
Member Orientation: Damayan Executive Directory Riya provided a brief member orientation to familiarize attendees with Damayan’s mission of empowering Filipino migrants—illuminating how the summer socialization and social activities are just one of our initiatives in uplifting the community.
Birthday Celebration and Games: We also indulged in games, wherein all form Damayan elders and the children of migrant workers played games, abounded in laughs, and grew closer!
The Damayan Annual Summer Socialization was a refreshing break that emphasized our commitment to the wellbeing of the Filipino migrant community. We believe a strong community and good mental health are essential in our fight for migrant and labor rights.
When is the next Damayan event? If you have a potential labor or immigration case, please attend the Damayan Legal Clinic on August 10th, 11am at The People’s Forum. RSVP here: damayanmigrants.org/2024-810
